Your host, John Rose, doesn’t speak with a Scottish brogue. He names his business “Able Scotsman Tours” to honor his many Scottish ancestors. The only accent you will hear from John is a slight hint of his eastern Kentucky background. John says that his people used to be called “Hillbillies” but are now “Appalachian Immigrants!” When John was two years old, his family moved from the hills of Booneville, Kentucky (Daniel Boone claimed that part of Kentucky was his favorite camp ground. He spent two winters there.  Word around the campfire is that one of our ancestors was a sister to the father of Daniel Boone) to the Over-the-Rhine area of Cincinnati in search of work. With the exception of four years in the United States Marine Corps, Cincinnati has remained his home. John descends from no less than twenty veterans of the American Revolution. He is a former Cub Master, Scout Master and the Commanding Officer of the Cincinnati Young Marines. He is a member of the Marine Corps League, the 1st Marine Division Association and the American Legion. John is the father of two, stepfather of two and grandfather of ten.
